He lost 50,000 euros and the money was returned!

Times are hard, but despite that, miracles do happen in Crete, proving that humanity still exists and reigns strong.

Grigoris Epitropakis, 47, who is an ambulance crew member in Ierapetra, experienced an example of this just recently and it was an incident that is quite hard to believe that it could actually happen!

Mr. Epitropakis had some money which he needed to put into the bank, in order to pay for a piece of agricultural equipment he wanted to buy. He put the amount of 50,000 euros in an envelope, wrapped it in plastic bags and the put the bundle into another bag, which he then carried on the handlebar of his motorbike and set off to Ierapetra.

With other errands holding him up, in the end, he couldn’t get to the bank before it closed.

On his return journey and somewhere between Myrtos and his home village of Psari Forada, unbeknown to the 47 year old, the bag fell off the bike, a fact that he didn’t notice it until he got back home.

He immediately set out along the road he had travelled, looking, asking but to no avail as the bag was nowhere to be found! In a moment of calm, he remembered that he had a mobile phone inside the bag, which he rang constantly until someone answered it.

For his good fortune, it was another man from the same village who picked up the phone – 43 year old Aris Daskalakis, who had found the bag in the middle of the road and had taken it home with him.

“I was sure that I would find the money. A small voice inside of me kept telling me that the bag and it’s contents would be returned”, said Mr. Epitropakis, clearly emotional, when talking to ekriti.

The two men met up, the money was returned and the finder was insistent that he wanted nothing in the way of a reward for his good deed.

“I don’t want money for doing something that was my duty”, he told his fellow villager…..
