Discussions regarding the “day after” the closure of the Neapolis Police Station

The “day after” the closure of the Police Station in Neapolis is approaching, as the date on which the door of the building will be locked for the first and last time, is 31st May 2017. It may have been understaffed and under operative for some months already, but locals are concerned of how the town will cope, under the new circumstances.
For this reason, the deputy police chief for Lasithi, Mr. Nikos Chrisakis and the chief of the Traffic Police for Agios Nikolaos Division, Mr. Petros Zervakis met this morning Thursday, with the deputy of the council of Agios Nikolaos Municipality responsible for Neapolis, Mrs. Efi Velimbasaki, the resident of the local Community, Mr. Nikos Sylligardos and the President of the Traders Association of Neapolis, Mr. Stavros Tzortzis, amongst others.
The representatives of local bodies requested from the Police that they do not forget the area from Sissi to Neapolis, as it has already been seen that as a result the gradual closure of the local Station, criminal activity has risen.
From their side, the Police representatives assured that despite the shortcomings in staff levels, the area of Neapolis will be given the appropriate proportion of the current strength that is available. They also pointed out that certain measures are planned to ease the situation with regard to parking and traffic in the square, the main retail centre and on the road towards the hospital.
