A serious accident occurred during the early hours of Monday night-Tuesday morning, on the road between Neapolis and Latsida, Mirabello, involving a single car, driven by a 25 year old.
Shortly after 2 o’clock in the morning, the driver lost control of the vehicle, resulting in it’s powerful collision with an olive tree.
The impact of the crash caused a fire to break out and the car began burning very quickly. Fortunately, passers by were able to help the young man free himself from the blazing car, as he had been trapped and could not escape with his own efforts.
An ambulance crew took the injured man to the General Hospital in Agios Nikolaos, however it became necessary to transfer the patient to the Venizeleio Hospital in Heraklion at 5am, as the there were not the relevant doctors on duty during the night, to be able to deal with the injuries the 25 year old had sustained.
The burnt out shell of the car he had been driving, has been parked in the grounds of Neapolis Hospital.
