The alarm bells went off on Tuesday evening at 9pm for the fire service, when they were called to attend an apartment building in A. Papandreou Street in Chania, where a lift had reportedly fallen.
The fire crews, along with three ambulances, raced to the scene as they had been advised that there were passengers trapped inside.
For unknown reasons, the lift appeared to have fallen from the fifth floor of the building, but fortunately, the brakes had finally slowed it down at the first floor level.

Three women were released from the cabin and taken to Chania General Hospital with orthopedic injuries.
The police blocked off the street to enable the easy access of the emergency services.
