Dog attacks motorcyclist

The discussion of the problem with stray dogs started up again on Friday, after a man from Agios Nikolaos was attacked as he was driving on his motorcycle.

The incident occurred when, F.H. a permanent resident of Agios Nikolas, was driving along the road through Karteros, on his way to Heraklion, for business.
According to his complaint, whilst he was travelling at between 40 and 50 km an hour along the road, he was attacked very suddenly, by a large dog who bit him on the leg.
Slightly further along, he lost his balance and fell off the bike, fortunately, without suffering serious injury, but as he told a reporter from neakriti.gr, he could easily have been killed. The damage caused to his bike was in the region of 100 euros.
Still very angry, he said that he hadn’t seen the animal in advance, as the road was badly lit, but he did nothing to provoke it and certainly had no time to react to the attack, either.
Once he had attended to his wound, he carried on his journey to Heraklion, where he made an official complaint to the Police, who despite receiving similar complaints on a regular basis, said that they cannot help in any way.
“What if someone had been crossing the road in front of me when that happened, who is going to compensate me for the mental anguish I have had experienced, or for the damage to my bike?” Mr. F.H. asked.
“Will someone in authority take responsibility for the situation at long last? Drastic measures need to be taken immediately to protect the public from this kind of incident, when the law protects animals from abuse and quite rightly, but their is not the same sensitivity when there are cases of people being attacked by strays, causing injury and damage”, he added in closing.
