It’s starting to look and smell like Easter in the Social Supermarket

In a united effort in order to once again, support the people of the area who are struggling with daily necessities, due to the financial crisis, local groups have been organising events over the last few days, to offer all of those items that come to mind – the images, the smells and the flavours, when looking forward to a happy family Easter celebration.

The Weavers of Elounda, who are the group of women who work voluntarily in the Social Supermarket, along with children from the Greek Guiding Association, members of the Day Care Centres for the Elderly of Agios Nikolaos and Neapolis, students from the local Technological Educational Institute (TEI Crete), along with others from the Tourist School (ASTEK) were all involved and showed their generosity of heart. Their selfless participation, successfully gave meaning and measure to the great celebration of Christianity.

Easter Candles (lambades) for the children, Easter cakes and pastries, food items and fruit are waiting to be shared out from today, Holy Tuesday and tomorrow, Holy Wednesday, to those who are entitled to the services of the supermarket. It is important to point out that for the first time this year, residents and businesses from Elounda are also helping with their contributions.

The activities of the Social Supermarket are expected to be expanded very soon, to take in the smaller communities within the Municipality, in order for many more people who are also in need, will receive the additional support.
