Rescue operation for German tourist

During an attempt to walk the “Pelekita” mountain path in Kato Zakros, Sitia, a german tourist experienced symptoms of a heart attack and was saved by the prompt and effective actions of the local Fire & Rescue Service.
The couple planned to visit the cave in the area yesterday 18/11/16, which is situated 5km from Kato Zakros. During the walk, the 52 year old man, feeling unwell, asked his wife to return with him to the village but at about 1,5 km from their destination, his symptoms worsened and he was unable to continue. His wife called for assistance on her mobile phone.
Two men from the Sitia Fire Service answered the call and along with five members of the Special Services Mountain Rescue Team carried the patient safely down to the village, where he was then taken to hospital by a waiting ambulance.
