Panic broke out last night, Thursday, onboard the ANEK ferryboat “Elyros”, when an elderly man fell down unconscious, in the restaurant of the boat.
Those present intervened to give first aid to the man, according to zarpanews.gr, whilst the Captain ordered the ferry to turn around and return to the port of Souda, from where it had set sail earlier.
An ambulance crew came on board as soon as the ferry docked, however, they could only confirmed the death of the 67 year old passenger.
Shortly after 10pm, the ferry set sail again for Piraeus.
The cause of death will be determined by an autopsy and the Port Police of Chania are conducting the administrative investigation.
