Identification of skeleton – possibly one of five missing women

A DNA sample was requested and taken, from close relatives of five women from Crete, who have been missing now for many years, in an attempt to identify the skeletal remains found on the beach in Kokkini Chani, last February.

The relatives of these women, who have been officially registered as missing and nobody since then has any idea where they may be, were all called to the Police Headquarters in Heraklion, a few days ago, to provide a sample of saliva.

According to safe sources, two of the missing women were residents of the Prefecture of Lasithi, two from Heraklion and one from Rethymnon and their disappearances took place at different times, between 1989 and 2010.

The same source said that one woman from Heraklion is considered certainly dead and in the other cases, it is almost certain that they are also dead, but that as yet, cannot be said conclusively.

There will most likely be a considerable delay before there is any confirmation either one way or the other, of the identity, based on the samples taken, as it is a complicated and difficult case.
