Father and son remanded in custody for murder

The father and son who went before the courts yesterday, charged with the murder of 23 year old Manolis Stratakis, in Anogia, have been remanded in custody, pending trial.

Both men were escorted by police officers from the court, after the hearing and their relatives were informed of the decision, from their defense lawyer.

Members of the family of the victim, who were present in court, also left, without incident, after the assailants had been taken away.

According to the representatives for the defense, both the father and the son are adamant that they came under the fire of the victim and his family as they were driving past and and that the 21 year old son was forced to fire in response, in order to protect their owns lives and he had been the one who fired the shot that killed Manolis Stratakis.

To confirm their version of events that fateful day, they have asked for the rear section of their vehicle to be examined to determine the number of bullet holes to be found there.

The two men have surrendered their weapons and have asked that the other family should be required to do the same, for forensic examination.
