Donation by Traders Association to “Social Supermarket”

The Traders Association of Agios Nikolaos, recently made a very kind donation to the Council operated, Social Supermarket, of the area.

On behalf of the Association, their President Mr. Odysseas Papadakis, donated 60 pairs of shoes from the shop that he has in the town.

Understanding the difficulties for many as a result of the current economic crisis, the donation will be most appreciated by those who will benefit.

In cooperation with the deputy President of the Social Services Organisation of the local Council, Mr. Michalis Lemonis, Mr. Papadakis committed to even more support for the particular facility with other items, in recognition of the importance of the service it offers to the community.

He also invited other businesses to make similar contributions, to help the poorer families or individual citizens, especially during this holiday season, but in general.

“It is preferable”, said Mr. Papadakis, “to help and support to locals who are struggling, rather than sending our old stock to the market stalls”.

In turn, Mr. Lemonis thanked the President of the Traders Association of Agios Nikolaos for his contribution and highlighted that this particular service (the social supermarket), is maintained by businesses and local residents who offer basic supplies – food, clothes, toys – but also individuals who offer their professional services voluntarily. Until now, the level of service on offer, has been especially high.

We hope that the example that we have seen, will be followed by others and we will be able to continue this collective effort.
