The ANEK Lines, ferry boat “Elyros” received a phone call with a bomb threat last night, a short time after 21:00 just as it was getting ready to depart the port at Souda for it’s journey to Piraeus.
The evacuation of the boat was completed by 21:45 and a detailed examination of all the areas of the vessel began, by Port Police officers and by specially trained police dogs.
Eventually, it was proven to have been a farce call, as the the investigations which were completed at 23:45, showed no evidence of an explosive device onboard.
The farce resulted in a three hour delay in sailing for the ship, which was full due to the return traffic from the Easter holidays.
