A fusion of the Best of British and Great Greek in the kitchen – Akis Petretzikis

When he won his title from the well known t.v. cookery show,  he said proudly, “No one can ever take this title away from me – there may be others who will win the title of “Master Chef” in Greece, but only I will be able to say that I was the first!!”
Akis had worked for many years in the kitchens of big hotels and restaurants in Britain and in London in particular – after he won his title, he got a daily spot on a morning television programme and started to show Greeks how to cook good old British classics such as fish and chips and roast beef and yorkshire puddings!!
He has now become something of a star on Greek T.V. and funnily enough, nobody has actually won the title of Greek “Master Chef” since his sweet victory – the second series ran up to and including the semi-final, but the final was never shown (I’m not sure if it was ever recorded either), because the “crisis” hit the channel showing the series and due it was rumoured, to non-payment to the production company, the show was taken off the air!
There never was a second Greek Master Chef…until 2017, when another channel, after all these years (from 2010), finally bought the programme and have begun the selection process for the participants in this years competition.
Akis Petretzikis however is still going strong and has a really good selection of recipes, with videos as well in some cases, which are a mix of his Greek roots, his influences from Britain and all the other tastes that he has sampled and recreated (and all recipes are available in English too)……this was a recipe for an easy icecream “cake” with oreos and caramel, that I saw on his facebook page recently and will be making very, very soon!!
