Crete amongst top ten economical European destinations for Americans

Crete has been voted by American tourists, as one of the best value for money tourist destinations in Europe, according to “Money”, the financial section of the magazine “Time”.

This summer will be more favourable for trans-Atlantic “escapes”, according to the magazine, due both to the strong dollar and the rapid drop in prices of airline tickets.

The destinations that they have picked out, offer good choices of restaurants, sights, good public transport links and low crime rates, but also relatively well priced accommodation, food and flights from the U.S.

For Crete, the cost for two people for a holiday, comes to 3,697 dollars, according to the calculations of the magazine.

Crete offers the visitor, the world renowned Palace of Knossos, but also it’s very individual culture, beautiful beaches and excellent tavernas that serve fresh fish and home made raki and cheeses.

This is the best time to book flights as the prices for Crete are down 9% compared to last year, according to Hopper, whilst the hotel accommodation is also cheaper this year, according to Hotels.com.

The magazine highlights the multitude of activities available on Crete, the from outdoor street markets, to bike rides into the mountains, to boat trips at sea. They recommend a visit to Elafonisi, famous for it’s pink sands and turquoise water and suggests that the beach at Balos is also remarkable.
