Steven Cook case is murder says Prosecutor – anonymous mail sent to authorities

In the case of Steven Cook, the British tourist whose remains were found last month, at the bottom of a well in Malia, the Public Prosecutor has decided a criminal charge of intentional homicide be assigned. This conclusion was reached after the evaluation of all the evidence in the file, of this mysterious case.

The file with all the evidence has been in the hands of the British police since last September, when two officers had travelled here in another attempt to re-examine the facts, get an update on all actions being taken by the Greek authorities, but also, to talk again with witnesses in the case.

The two officers were in touch with a lawyer from Heraklion, who was employed by the Cook family to provide an official transcript of the file in english, which he handed over during their meeting. The two men, concentrated their investigations on certain aspects and appeared to conduct another “reconstruction” in Malia.

Amongst the more interesting information, there was an anonymous letter and an email which had been sent to the authorities. The unknown author appeared to be especially convincing with the information he offered, with his sole motivation being that “the tragic parents would be able to settle down” (in the knowledge).

The author claimed that Steven had fallen victim to a particular group of people, giving gruesome details and pointing out a location, where the body had been buried, a field which was in fact, not at all far from the well where his skeleton was eventually found.

This information was followed up immediately by the police at the time, with the help of dogs, but nothing had been found. Legal sources say that a decree was issued to break the electronic privacy, in order to identify the sender of the anonymous email, but it had been sent from an internet cafe.
