Rescue operation for family cut off by snow

Heavy snow continues to fall on Lassithi Plateau and great care should be taken by anyone visiting the area. In the village of Selia, a family of five, who had become completely cut off by the heavy snowfall, has been rescued.

The family, parents with their two young children and a grandfather, contacted the authorities when they realised that they could not leave their home due to the amount of snow which had settled.

In response, the Mayor of Lassithi Plateau, speaking to Radio Kriti confirmed that their home was in an isolated position between Mesa Lasithiou and Neapolis and that a snow plow would be used to rescue the family immediately.

Until the weather improves again, the family who are all safe and well, will stay with relatives.
