New 24-hour strike announced – travel may be affected

International Labour Day yesterday, May 1st and in Agios Nikolaos, both citizens of the area, alongside trade union representatives and officials, recognised the occasion with two, albeit small, shows of solidarity. One rally took place in the square and the second, shortly after that, outside the Marina.
In the meantime, Central Trade Unions have announced strike action in response to the new “unfair and harsh” measures which are due to be brought to Parliament for approval, in order for an agreement to be reached with the Country’s lenders.
The date for a 24-hour National Strike, has been scheduled for May 17th, by the General Confederation of Employees of Greece (GSEE) and the civil servants’ union federation ADEDY – between them representing the majority of Greece’s unionised workers, and it is expected to affect travel.
Trade unionists also clarified that if the date for voting in the measures is brought forward, the date of the strike will be rescheduled.
Tourists who plan to travel that day are advised to contact their travel agents and all relevant authorities for further information.
