Low cost flights – how is it done?

In the shadow of the recent plane crash in Colombia where 71 people were killed, including  most members of a Brazilian football team, will it make us question using low cost airlines?
We all want to find a cheap ticket when we decide to book a holiday or travel for other reasons, but how do these companies really manage to keep their ticket prices so low?
A video from the channel, Wendover Productions recently up loaded onto youtube, explains how these Companies manage to operate and more specifically, in Europe.
The video explains that contrary to what many may believe, all of the airplanes are new which make them more economical and consume less fuel. They are usually all of one type which helps with maintenance costs. Each plane will also fly more air miles and to many different destinations during one day, which again means that it will earn more money for the company.
As we all know, there is no free food and drink available on low cost airlines, but other small secrets like the type of seats in their planes, which don’t recline and as such are cheaper to purchase and maintain, all help in keeping down costs.
Cabin crew are more often than not, in the beginning of their careers so cheaper to employ and will also take on other duties, such as cleaning between flights.
Low cost airlines will nearly always use smaller airports where fees are lower and you will virtually never come out of the plane via a tunnel, but always from stairs and at a distance from the main arrival building of the airport.
Have a look at the video below and see in detail, how these companies manage to maintain such low prices for their tickets.
