Guilty of animal abuse

A case from 2014 was tried in the courts of Neapolis this week. A man from Myrtos, Ierapetra was charged with abuse and the death of a dog on his land.
His defense stated that the dog entered his land to attack him and his chickens so he no choice but to hit and then shoot the animal with his rifle. He declared that he was an animal lover.
The court did not recognise his defense, finding him guilty and deciding a 21 month suspended prison sentence and a fine of 5,000 euros.
The local Animal Welfare organisation is awaiting the final decision to be posted in order to determine whether a further fine of 30,000 euros by the local police, is applicable.
