Farmers of Crete in Athens for rally

With the three regular ferry boats from Crete to Piraeus, 1500 farmers and representatives of associated bodies from the Island, travelled to the mainland to take part in the PanHellenic rally which is organised for today in Athens.
One boat from Chania and two from Heraklion were full to capacity as the support for the rally from the farmers, from all fields and areas, was dynamic. They are fighting with the Government, for changes in taxation, national insurance contributions, pensions and more.
Arriving in Piraeus this morning with torrential rain, their spirits remained high as they set off towards the Capital and Vathi Square, the place given for the starting point of the protest march, to meet up with the groups from all the other areas of the Country.
The finishing line for the march will be outside the Ministry for Agricultural Development, although a meeting with the Minister has not been requested. In a statement made yesterday and before the rally, the spokesman had said quite clearly that the only meeting necessary now, was with the Prime Minister, Alexis Tsipras himself, after repeated earlier talks with the Minister, had failed badly.
In support of the action of the farming communities, certain public offices will remain closed today Wednesday and some street markets may be affected.
