Corn clean-up after spillage

Until late in the evening, special teams were working to clean up the huge amounts corn which fell from a lorry which was travelling on the National Highway, from Heraklion towards Agios Nikolaos, close to the junction with the Industrial Park of Heraklion.
The spillage made the road surface extremely slippery and caused serious difficulties for traffic using the highway.
The task of removing the corn spillage proved very difficult and along with the fire service, workmen with shovels were on the scene, in an effort to restore the surface to it’s state prior to the accident. In order to prevent new accidents, the road was closed for a time and until a diversion was put in place via the Industrial Park, which caused considerable delays for drivers.
