Blood donation plea

Following the injuries he sustained yesterday, from the accident outside the Hera Village Hotel, whilst working for the council collecting refuse, Kostis Peponis needed 10 units of blood during his surgery.
Spyros Massaros, the deputy for Cleanliness, and Kostis’ manager, has requested that if anyone is in a position to go to and give blood on his behalf, it would be invaluable. Kostis, he said, is one of the best and hardest working members of the team.
The system in Greece is such that when blood is used for a patient, a debt is created and in many cases, it is quite normal for family and friends to be asked to donate to make up that debt – in fact for anyone who does decide to volunteer, you must state the name of the patient you are giving blood for.
