Axe murder in Chania

A 40 year old Roumanian man died yesterday (Tuesday) in Chania following an argument with his neighbour.
The man had suffered head injuries that were most likely caused by an agricultural tool, such as some kind of spade or axe and was found tied to a tree by a washing line. The dispute between the two men apparently started for a minor reason, which was related to the work being done in the back garden of the property, which was a garden they shared.

The assailant explained to the Police what had happened, admitted the crime and was arrested on the spot. He is said to also be a Roumanian citizen, aged 50-55, who has lived for many years in the same property with his partner and works for the Council of Chania in the Sanitation Department.
Neighbours talk of a very good person who would willingly help out with odd jobs in the neighbourhood. There had been, according to reports, other previous incidents between the assailant and the victim, who lived in the house next door, disputes which normally had to do with noise and disturbing the peace.

The assailant’s partner who was inside the house at the time of the dispute, was also arrested.

Police and a forensic team cordoned off the house and the road for approximately two hours following the arrests.
