Appeal court today for 250,000 fraud from Marina Agios Nikolaos

At the Appeal Courts of East Crete today, a case going back to 2004 is being reviewed for appeal. The case relates to the fraud to the value of 250,000 euros, carried out by the then, Manager of the Marina, Agios Nikolaos.

The defendant is a civil servant who was transferred to the Marina in 2004 from another position, to take over the management and financial control of the operation of the Marina.

From then and until 2007, when the deficit in the accounts was finally exposed, the 51 year old man had been draining off amounts of money from the accounts, from the mooring fees of the yachts, for his own benefit. Eventually, the black hole in the accounts came to light and a sworn-in public accountant was brought in to investigate the deficit.

In the original trial, the defendant had been found guilty and was sentenced to 14 years in prison. Today is the appeal court.
