Ammoudara Beach public toilet – readers complaint

Following our article earlier on today, in which a local woman expressed her disappointment at the condition of the public toilets on Ammoudara Beach, when she attempted to visit them yesterday, we would like to thank both the reader, for bringing the issue to our attention, and also the responsible office of the Council – the DAEAN, for their speedy explanation in response to the article.
Fonien.gr in English will continue to proudly post articles on the successes of the Municipality, but also feels that when readers propose issues for open discussion, which may reflect a negative image of our town, it is this author’s obligation to help and to be, where possible, the voice of the public and as such, contribute to a solution being found.
We do not know up until now, how many tourists have taken similar photographs of the same public toilets and already shared them on social media, all around the world. We would hope however, that the Council, who have now been made aware of the situation, thanks to the intervention of our reader, will very quickly take every measure to ensure that the doors are secured again. Whether the management and staff of the DAEAN were aware or not that the doors had been forced, they are ultimately liable, for ensuring the safety of the people using the beach.
It is well known to most of our readers that there are “technical issues” affecting the “official” opening and operation of our beaches this year, but as these beaches are such an important part of our tourist product, we would still hope that ways could be found, to overcome or temporarily get around the problem – the tourists will not make allowances, even if we are forced to.
