The hard part is coming soon when you need to decode the nuances, its perfumes and flavors. Things multiply the pleasure in the process and at the same time give us information about wine we have in our glass. The producer, the vineyard, the variety, cultivation, vinification maintenance. Those who managed to discover all stages of wine tasting can distinguish terroirs and vintages. As to whether a year had much rain or not and much more.
You will learn to appreciate a wine even if you do not like it. but they will first have to learn n ‘discovers the elements found inside the glass, to analyze and to designate a specific vocabulary.
In this process an important role is played by the memory of aromas and flavors that holds each of us.
Our senses are our only ally in the tasting. The vision, the nose and the taste have a dominant role. Touch and hearing to use to complete the enjoyment.
The tasting is a relatively quick process but requires great preparation. Education is important that n ‘one discovers activating the nervous system elements that stimulate the senses and decrypt. So if we wanted to define the informal tasting we would say that it is the process by which he fill our brain with a large amount of information the train so that it has the possibility to withdraw when we ask to do so.
So far we referred to the enrichment of our nervous system with aromas and flavors can we discover everywhere in the day, such as during a walk, their storage and expression through an appropriate specific vocabulary. Concentration is also very important because this is what will help us to obey and to express our personal opinion. It is no coincidence that many people with a glass of the same wine can give very different tasty results.
For this reason we must be open and curious but remain objective toward figures that are contrary to our personal preferences.
The wine is then mainly an internal process. The Process of Tasting
First the glass. It is important to know that there is a special type of glass called tasting glass used in competitions worldwide. (Picture Here)
If we do not have such a clear glass choose kolonato glass. Watch the bubble of glass and the foot is not uniform. The material must be thin glass or crystal and it is important to be good quality because it determines the amount and clarity of flavors that we receive. The glass should be transparent and bubble open at the base and slightly closed at the mouth. You have to allow agitation of the wine and release the aromas.
So you can see the color and the quantity of alcohol, sweetness depending on how many “tears” will be kept in the shaking. From the color we can understand if the wine is young, old, fresh, aged, highly concentrated or not, oxidized or not. A purple color gives a fresh wine, terracotta unless the color of the variety shows an oxidized wine. A deep red and highly concentrated wine with a full body which will be discussed in detail below.
An informal rule for the tasting but it is important at least in the first steps is to test with others. How we can we exchange ideas and views on the elements to discover and fill our information. Then it is important that there are no distractions in the process. Perfumes, images, colored counters or surfaces, the music should be limited. Before a tasting is not appropriate to wear perfume or lipstick. This can affect the nose and our taste and certainly the lipstick smear our glass.
From the beginning we mentioned that our mood affects our objectivity. The same weather conditions.
It seems simple but it is important to remember that the headache, fatigue, insomnia are factors that should prevent us from our participation in a tasting. We need to be very fit. Some professional tasters choose to taste their wines in the morning or early afternoon and while they have not eaten anything. It is understood that the food is prohibited during the tasting. Only a little bread and allowed it to balance the acidity in the mouth.
So we said that time is important. The same course and location.
The tasting room should be bright, quiet, free of odors and do neither too hot nor too cold. Optimum temperatures are from 18 to 21st C.
