Warning from European Commision to Turkey

The European Commision sent a message today to Turkey, highlighting that they must show respect for the borders of European Union Countries.
This comes after a statement by Ankara that suggested that the Islets of Imia are Turkish territory.
In particular, a European Commissioner, in a statement from Brussels, expressed that Turkey must respect both air space and maritime boundaries of all European Countries.
“The European Commision underlines that Turkey must commit to and without question, good neighbourly relations and we ask that they avoid all actions likely to create conflict, threats or energies against member countries. Any disputes must be settled peacefully”.
Following the statement by the Turkish side, the Greek Government replied that there is no legal base to support the Turkish stance. The Treaty of Lausanne, in 1923 and other Protocols and Agreements 1932 and 1947 show clearly, which islands and islets in the Aegean Sea are under Greek sovereignty, including the two Islets of Imia.
Turkey must decide if it is for, or against International law, including all International agreements. They must make clear if International law is something they consider less than their internal political agenda and feasibilities.
