Two years in prison for phone fraud scam

A prison term of two years suspended sentence, was given to a 46 year old Bulgarian man by the Courts of East Crete, yesterday, who had made telephone calls, trying to fraudulently obtain money from for unsuspecting people, claiming that there had been an accident involving a member of their family.

The man had managed to convince one woman, who has a shop in Agios Nikolaos, when he rang her and said that her daughter had had an accident and hit a child with her car. To keep her out of prison, the man demanded that she pay 3000 euros as a security. The woman, in a state of shock, believed him and gave him the amount he asked for.
