Rescue teams have located the position of the Huey helicopter, which is part of the fleet Army aviation, in the area of Sarantaporos. The military helicopter, was carrying five passengers and crew, when it was reported as having been lost from the radar this morning at 07:50, over Elassona.
According to reports, the aircraft was carrying out a routine flight from Larissa to Kozani. It had departed from Stefanovikeio with three people on board and continued on for Larissa, from where it picked up two more passengers, one of whom is believed to be the Deputy Commander of the 1st Army, Ioannis Tzanidakis.
The aircraft was estimated to have already landed in Kozani at 09:50, but despite urgent calls from air traffic control, no response was received.
The army has released an official announcement confirming the accident.
