Another important donation towards Agios Nikolaos General Hospital

The local division of the National Police Federation – not the trade unionists body but the officers association – has made another, very generous donation to the General Hospital in Agios Nikolaos, this time, in cooperation with the Lasithi Medical Association.

Despite the request for help with the purchase of bedside cabinets for the Surgical Clinic of the Hospital, the members of the Committee of the local Union, felt the need to do more for the local community, which, as is understandable, due to financial restrictions, relies so heavily on the free medical services available in the Hospital.

In a meeting with the Administrator of the Hospital and after having been made aware of a request for a certain piece of equipment for the Pediatric Clinic, a decision was made to proceed finally, with the purchase of a specialist vein detection device, for use in the clinic, to help avoid any unnecessary additional discomfort, to the young and very young patients.

Funding for the purchase came from a friendly-charity football game which was played between the Lasithi Police and officers of the Coast Guard based in Agios Nikolaos, but as the amount required (some thousands of euros), was more than the football game had been able to generate, the local Medical Association came forwards to offer to cover the difference in the amount required, which was considerable.

The Police Federation has a long standing relationship with the Pediatric Clinic in the Hospital and intends to take further initiatives wherever possible, to help improve the standard of services on offer.

A similar football game also took place in 2016 and the money collected, went to help the General Hospital in Sitia.

The decision for the particular purchase was based on the need for such a new modern piece of technology and was taken in agreement between the Hospital Management and all other parties concerned.
