Migrants leave Ierapetra

Tomorrow evening will see 38 of the 41 Pakistani migrants who have been temporarily accommodated in Ierapetra, leave Crete, with the overnight ferry for Athens.

The Dept Mayor of Ierapetra spoke to the news site cretapost and explained that their papers were ready and as long a there is no ban on the ferry sailing, they will travel to the mainland and then be taken to Corinthos. Should the weather change the plan, they will remain in Ierapetra again until the ban on sailing ends.

The only woman who was amongst the original 41 to be picked up by the coast guard, will stay on in the Council run old people’s home, due to the fact that she is 6 months pregnant and needs closer care. On the boat carrying the migrants, this woman was accommpanied by her two under age brothers who will also be staying on, as they cannot continue without an escort.

The Turkish trafficker who was the captain of the boat has been detained by the authorities and will stand trial.
