Tourist spending in 2016 – Crete in strong position

Five prefectures benefitted financially from 85% of the total sum of income from tourism in 2016, according to a very interesting analysis, that was presented for the first time by the Bank of Greece.
This means that 9 out of every 10 euros that were spent by tourists in the last year, when specifically to the following five particular prefectures:
South Aegean 3,136 million euros, Crete 3,095 million euros, Attika 1,734 million euros, Central Macedonia 1,688 million euros and the Ionian Islands 1,504 million euros. The total income for the remaining eight prefectures was put at 1,592 million euros.
These figures come from a system adopted in 2016 by the Bank of Greece, which gives a clear and analytical picture of income, number of stays in each prefecture, using a European model, Nomenclature of territorial units for statistics (NUTS 2013/EU-28).
Other important figures which come from the analysis for Crete for 2016, are as follows:
Tourist income by Prefecture:
3,095 million euros (2nd position) out of a total income of 12,749 million euros
Number of arrivals by Prefecture:
4.537,000 (4th position) out of a total of 28.376,000 visitors
Nights stay by Prefecture:
39.378,000 (2nd position) out of a total of 190.402,000 nights stay
Average spend by visitor during stay by Prefecture:
682 euros (1st position) with an average of 449 euros over all 13 Prefectures
Expenditure per nights stay by Prefecture:
79 euros (1st position) with average of 67 over all 13 Prefectures
Average length of stay by Prefecture:
8,7 nights (joint 1st position) with average overall being 6,7 nights
