Heraklion Council meet to discuss Crematorium

A joint committee of Heraklion Council, met last week with the head of Town Planning, Mr. Giannis Rasoulis, to receive updates on the progress of discussions on the final site of the Crematorium, a scheme that the Council has already agreed to.

The issue is important to the Municipality, which has been in touch with the Minister for the Environment, Georgos Stathakis, but also with other senior officials, to clarify details for potential sites and for the final signatures to be put to the plans.

The Council has actually found a site which it proposes and which is exactly opposite the new cemetery, which was originally planned by Alikarnassos Council, as a new burial site. It remains to be confirmed if it will be suitable for the needs of the Crematorium in terms of planning regulations.

Whatever the decision, the whole subject and the final plans, should, according to reports, be completed by the summer.
