Head of statue found in stream

A particularly important archaeological find was discovered in the last few days, west of Ierapetra. It was a full sized head from a statue, which is in excellent condition. The piece was found by a local farmer in a dry stream to the west of the town and immediately handed into the Archaeological Collection of Ierapetra.

The head of the Ephorate of Antiquities for Lassithi, speaking on Radio Lassithi, said that she would be going personally to Ierapetra to evaluate the head and deemed it a very important finding for the region. Official details will be released after the full evaluation is completed and it was confirmed that the piece will stay in the Collection of Ierapetra.
