With safety being the main criteria for the choice of holiday destination for European holidaymakers, for 2017, Spain, Portugal and Greece are already ahead of others for reservations. Tour Operators had already made the provision of additional flight seats and beds available to resorts in these Countries for the Summer season 2017.
In Greece, early indications are for a very good year as long as nothing happens to change people’s opinion on the issue of safety here. Already there have been announcements for expansions to their programmes by TUI and Thomas Cook and the Greek Authority for Flight Coordination foresees an increase in air traffic to Greek airports this season (from the last Sunday of March to the last Sunday in October) of 19%.
The makeup of the markets choosing Greece stays pretty much the same as other years; the 15 biggest markets make up 90% of the total number of visitors. Of those 15, the top 5 (Germany, Britain, Italy, Russia and France) together produce 60%. Germany and Britain will both have double the capacity of the other three countries in the top 5 for 2017.
