“Blue Flag” awards 2017 – Lasithi in 2nd place

The Greek Society for Nature Conservation (National Society for the Protection of Nature), National Operator of the Blue Flag International Program in our country, have announced the award of coast and marinas for 2017.
Greece comes second worldwide, amongst 47 countries, with a total of 486 awards.
It is worth noting that this year, in all 47 countries participating in the Program, Greece held 25% of the new award winning coasts.
The prefecture of Lasithi is the second best in Greece, with 42 “Blue Flags”, with Halkidiki in first place with a grand total of 71 awards!
The Municipality of Agios Nikolaos has been awarded 27 “Blue Flags” and as such, is the Municipality with the most awards in Greece, with the Municipalities of Sitia and Ierapetra receiving 9 and 6 flags consecutively!
Of the Marinas listed in the awards, the Marina of Agios Nikolaos is included.
The International Committee made 3,574 awards in total for beaches, 662 for marinas and 50 for sustainable tourism vessels, worldwide.
Chania won 34 awards, Rethymnon 17 and Heraklion 19.
